Some Anime Openings Worth to Watch

Do you know why I like anime openings?

Because some of them are NICE!

Anime openings can make us, the viewers, feel hyped to watch the anime and take some glimpse of what the story is about (also maybe some spoilers) from the substances and tell-tale style that the anime opening offers. It can also be a tool or medium to promote the anime. Some people, like myself, sometimes feel interested in watching an anime because of the opening. The factors to judge whether an anime opening is good or not is the song used in the opening and the animation of the opening. Some may like the opening because the song is easy listening, some like it because of its eye-catching animation, or both. An anime opening is considered good if it's fulfilled those two factors, although some people might only prefered one of the factors above another. And that's okay. People have their own preference. As for me, I also have a solely subjective tendencies towards some of the anime openings in this list beside said objective factors.

So, I present you all the list of anime openings worth to watch, individually or when you watch the anime itself so you won't skip the opening. This list isn't ordered by the ranking that I made by myself, but by animes' title alphabetically. Ah, well, if you read this list carefully, I think you'll know which one(s) is/are my favourite.

(Caution: May contain spoilers)

Another Opening ("Kyōmu Densen" - ALI Project)

Another is a nice horror anime. The opening, although simple, is giving the mysterious vibe. It is scary and creepy, but still we have the courage to watch it. This opening may seem standard to you, but that's what could make it cool.

Beastars Opening ("Wild Side" - ALI)

Beastars opening is a unique one in my opinion because it's in stop motion 3D imagery, not usual 2D. The opening depicts the wolf protagonist seems starving and in a visible need to quench his thirst. And then, he meets the rabbit heroine and begins to chase her. The rabbit trips, and the wolf is ready to devour her. But, before he really attacks her, the background around them changes into a brighter environment. It seems that the wolf realizes his affection for the rabbit. Both of them starts to dance together. But, when the opening reaches the end, the wolf has got his realization that the rabbit is gone because of the presumably predation.

From the opening, it shows the conflict inside the wolf character as a carnivore. He longs to nourish himself and is under the force to succumb to his hunting instinct, but can't stop his feelings toward the rabbit, his love interest, who is a herbivore. And that's what the opening suggests us to predict the events in the anime.

Black Butler: Book of Circus Opening ("ENAMEL" - SID)

The Appealing: Part 1.

"Why would you like this opening?" There's something in this opening that makes you sit down and watch it. Yes, it's pleasant to the eyes. "ENAMEL" is one literal cinematic experience of an opening.

Bleach 1st Opening ("*~asterisk*" - Orange Range)

"*~asterisk*" brings us surprise as an opening for a kind of action anime. Maybe this opening will make you think of a slice-of-life anime, but suddenly there's the swordsmen montage. We can't help but to ask, "What's going on?". The typography, the colour, the music that acconpanies, it's like blend in harmony. It just seems tidy for me.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) Opening ("Gurenge" - LiSA)

The Appealing: Part 2.

Tanjirō Kamado was an ordinary, family-loving boy who becomes a demon slayer after his family was killed and his survived younger sister turned into a demon. This opening shows Tanjirō's struggle to train in order to be stronger. In his journey, Tanjiro isn't alone, there are other people who accompany him erradicating demons. Because of this, "Gurenge" is that anime opening necessarily brings us to understand the process of becoming stronger.

Detective Kindaichi 1st Opening ("CONFUSED MEMORY" - Yūko Tsuburaya)

I remember when I was a little child, everytime this opening showed up in TV, I began to stand up and dance. Right now, when I watch this opening, I imagine what kind of life that an ordinary but genius teenager would have. Will they be recruited as a detective if their deduction skill is on point? We can assume that beneath the regular daily life of Hajime Kindaichi, there are many gruesome mysteries to be solved.

Detective School Q (Tantei Gakuen Q) 1st Opening ("MeiQ!? - Meikyū - MAKE☆YOU" - Hayami Kishimoto)

This one brings many memories from when I was in elementary school. I and my friends used to watch this show at the weekend in the morning. There are some reasons for me to like this opening. The song is catchy. The animation's transition is neat with colourful scheme and nice introduction to the characters.

Dororo 1st Opening ("Kaen" - Ziyoou-vachi)

So, I watch Dororo because of this opening. When I see this opening, I can foresee a man in his youth travels from one place to another to collect his body parts accompanied by a young girl. The samurai-like representation looks slick here. "Kaen" really justifies the remake of the Dororo anime after half a century.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (3rd Part): Stardust Crussaders 2nd Opening ("Sono Chi no Kioku ~end of the WORLD~" - JO☆STARS ~Tommy, Coda, and JIN~)

I have to say that all JoJo openings are great. But, no other JoJo openings can bear a hybrid of intriguing action and emotional aspect like "Sono Chi no Kioku ~end of the WORLD~". The opening covers the part where Jōtarō and his comrades has their final confrontation with DIO, Jōtarō and the Joestar family's nemesis. Yeah, you can see their struggle is REALLY there.

One word for this opening: HYPE!

Kiba 1st Opening ("Sanctuary" - Nami Tamaki)

I put this for nostalgic purpose. This opening and the anime are underrated. So, this one made it to the list just to get some recognition. So, please do consider what you'll do.

Mekakucity Actors Opening ("daze" - Jin feat. MARiA from GARNiDELiA)
This is an "I'd rather watch the opening" case. But, Mekakucity Actors is actually an interesting anime with a good concept, even if it looks bad. The opening itself is quite cool, you know. You also have to admit that the transition in the animation of its opening is sick. Subtle, but firm.

My suggestion is, you must listen to the songs, read the novel, and read the manga too to understand this anime.

Naruto 9th Opening ("Yura Yura" - Hearts Grow)

This is the last opening of the OG Naruto. This opening points Naruto's training shadows out. From training shadows shown in this opening, we understand how Naruto gets stronger. It also alludes Naruto's training for more than 3 years. The animation shifts smoothly with the song, making the training movement that Naruto does enjoyable. That's what I like from the opening.

Naruto Shippūden 18th Opening ("LINE" - Sukima Switch)
I know this opening covers most of the filler episodes in Naruto Shippūden and that's true. In fact, I myself rather watch the opening than the show's episode. 😅

But, I hope you can understand my fondness for this opening. Many people have the 6th opening or the 13th opening as their favourite, but the 18th opening is my personal favourite. It gives us the meaning of Naruto's pursuit of happiness. (The crystals in the opening represent "happiness".) Not only Naruto who's having a grab for happiness, but also Naruto's comrades and the people around him. This opening has the sick transition too.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Opening ("Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis" - Yōko Takahashi)

Groovy and giving the hype, "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis" has to be your bop. This classic bears the stylish visual for anyone who watch it in its own way. The buildup that this opening brings is very cinematic. It does not only radiate high-spirit energy, but also directs melancholic shade.

FYI, the animation for the opening is made first before the song is decided. When the animation and the song are put together, it fits conveniently.

Pokémon 5th Opening ("Ready Go!" - Naomi Tamura)

This is also bringing you nostalgia of waiting the show to begin in front of your TV every Sunday morning. This opening usurps ourselves to join the journey of Ash (Satoshi) and his friends becoming a pokémon master. We just let ourselves be sucked. We're excited to see the ups-and-downs of the journey. It's not only making us want to see the journey, but also giving the feeling to catch a pokémon, to go out on an adventure, and to have a duel battle against opponents' pokémon ourselves.

The Law of Ueki 1st Opening ("Falco" - Hitomi Shimatani)

Ah, another nostalgia. This opening from when it starts until it finishes is just mesmerizing. The song also makes you feel pumped up. You may not help yourself but to sing along with the song. Aside from that, the characters' introduction is very balanced, whether they're being static or in motion. It makes you wonder what they do, what they think, and what happens around them.

Tokyo Ghoul Opening ("unravel" - TK from Ling Tosite Shigure)

The Appealing: Part 3.

"unravel" really unravels what is happening in the first part of the series progressively. The contrast between black background and colourful components,  broken image and intact composure makes the opening beautiful accompanied by an emotionally rough song. Edgy, stellar, and meaningful.
